HOW MUCH ROOM DO I NEED TO GROW GARLIC?

We plant in raised beds with 4 rows per bed, 5-6 inches between rows. Plants are spaced 9 inches apart in each row.  A good general rule is to plant each clove 5-9 inches apart, regardless of how you lay out your rows or beds.    Here is an idea of how to decide how much space your seed garlic will take up in your garden:  If you have 5 pounds of seed garlic that have 210 plantable cloves.  If your garden rows are 20 ft long and you plant your cloves 6 inches apart in a row, you will need 5 rows of space. If you have ordered more seed garlic than you have room in your garden for, you always do what we do: Roast and eat the small cloves!

HOW MUCH GARLIC DO I NEED?

HOW MUCH GARLIC DO I NEED?  How much garlic should I buy? 1-5 pounds of seed garlic will produce enough garlic for the everday needs of most families. The amount of garlic that your seed will produce usually ranges between 4-12 times the amount that you plant.    This varies greatly between varieties due to the amount of cloves in each bulb.  For example 1 pound of a productive "Artichoke" variety (Like Inchelium Red Or Lortz Italian) of seed garlic may produce 12 pounds in return because of the large amount of cloves in each bulb (12-14). 1 pound of a productive "Porcelain" variety of seed garlic (Music) may produce 5 pounds in return as the cloves are 5-7 in a bulb..
